We don't actually get to see or hear a lot of Michael, other than what's already out there on YouTube etc, and the editing was extremely choppy and disjointed. Sound quality was very bad too, with alternate scenes of closed captions and non-closed captions. I'm not old or deaf, but would have appreciated clarity on the muffled voice over.

The commentary is all soundbites from his friends and associates and his story unfolds in pretty much chronological order. 'Mystify' is also a touching treatment of depression and how it can grab hold and destroy in some cases.
Although we know how the story will end, it is handled with compassion and nuance and is quite powerful.
I'd thoroughly recommend this movie. It is moving, rather than depressing. We can all learn lessons from the lives of others and 'Mystify' teaches us lessons at every turn.

A new trailer has been released for  Mystify,  a documentary capturing the life story of the late  INXS  singer Michael Hutchence. The film, which receives its UK release on October 18, examines the story of the Australian music icon and the events leading up to his untimely death back in 1997. It debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in April to widespread critical acclaim. Following an initial taste of the film in June, the official UK trailer and poster have now been unveiled – check them out below. “You know when there’s one person in the room that has a special light? That was him, ” a voiceover says in the clip over archive footage of the singer. Another adds: “He was the complete package. ” Introducing INXS’ single ‘Never Tear Us Apart’, the trailer goes on to detail how Hutchence began to struggle with fame and his non-stop lifestyle. I remember being mesmerised when I first watched Stay Young on Countdown. It wasn't long before everyone I knew at school had INXS added to the bands on their pencil cases. My INXS was squished on there with Divinyls, the Oils, Chisel, Acca Dacca, Split Enz, Men At Work, the Angels and the Mentals from memory. Ahhh. The days where we wore I♥️ Australia plastic earrings.
